Cleveland Indians Home Opener 4/12/2010

We froze, and we watched the Indians lose.

Melt Bar and Grilled! Lakewood Ohio

So much hype for this little place! It’s fantastic though and definately lives up to the blogs. I always end up going on a Friday or Saturday evening, probably the worst time to visit a hip eatery in Lakewood. You put your name in at the crowded Host/Hostess table, and proceed to wait and wait and wait.. Oh and wait some more. Here’s a helpful hint. Exit Melt towards Detroit, hang a right, and walk a block or two down to Pheonix Coffee and have a mocha. You might be lucky and grab a bar seat though, and when that happens the night/day/morning gets magical. Grab a beer from their immense selection, and peruse the menu. The appetizers are good but you won’t really need to eat them – since you’ll be stuffed after trying to eat the entree plate. Check out the grilled cheese! You’ll see the delicious Parmageddon (Perogies, Bread, Cheese) The Big Popper (Jalapenos, Bread, Cheese – then beer battered, then deep fried), and my personal favorite, the Chorizo and Potato(Chorizo, Potato, Bread,, and Cheese!). The wait staff are great fun! Never had a bad experience at Melt, except for the wait – but it’s not so horrible.

Swensons Drive In

Here I am at Swenson’s again, for a triple fattening triple cheeseburger and potato teasers. This definately has become my go to place for burgers – forget Burger King, McDonald’s or Wendy’s, Swensons has perfected the craft of the great Cheeseburger.

First, make sure you turn your lights on – Swenson’s uses the American Drive-In gimmick, although they are the real deal, so it’s no gimmick. A car hop will run over to your car and either give you a menu or take your order. The menu includes fried bologna, chicken fingers, the obvious fries, milkshakes, sodas and Swenson’s famous Florida
and Californias (orange and grape flavor and Ginger ale over crushed ice).

The burgers are king at swensons though, fresh ground beef, brown sugar, mustard and other spices go into the meat, but it’s not overwhelming with spice, perfectly seasoned. The burger is then topped with the pefectly melted cheese product, could be Velveeta for all I know. I am a huge fan of cheeses, expensive, aged, etc but the cheese on thee burgers goes perfectly. The bun is freshly baked, flakey, and probably dipped in butter – so this place is definatley not do the health conscious.

I highly recommend visiting swenson’s it’s worth the drive To Akron because if you live here I’m sure you already know.

Dogfish Head 90-Minute Imperial IPA

I am a hop-head at heart. A delicious IPA or a hoppy Strong Ale can brighten my day. So today, I revisited a favorite of mine – Dogfish Head 90-Minute.

From the time you crack open the bottle, you get a nice hit of hops, and during the pour the tremendous aroma presents itself, no-forces itself right into your nose.

The head is two-three fingers thick, and leaves a beautiful lace. The smell of citrus and pine entice your nose and you begin with your first sip.

I’m suprised with the tase, highly malty-moreso than I remember or expect. It’s still a tongue bruiser at over 90IBU’s but I really taste a sweet malt as well. The balance is fantastic. The sharp and crisp hops are delivered with the sweet malt and a not overwhelming alcohol (9% abv).

This goes down quite easy, and if you are not watching you can surely go overboard because of this.

I rate this an A+, perfectly done.

Have you ever been so annoyed at work, not a customer or co-worker but one of these managers or supervisors that take their job description way to seriously and act like their bowel movements don’t stink? You get an email stating that you were on break for 21 minutes and if you needed to be on break longer to let a supervisor know? You then proceed to tell this person, you in fact did tell a supervisor? That’s not so bad but then not receiving an apology for the finger pointing email. That’s the crazy part.

Gimme that Filet O’ Filet

Such a bold statement by such a bland company. McDonald’s has brought back their catchy “fish” sandwich ad for yet another Lent, but what does this ad really say? If I had to take a guess this ad is really just screaming “EAT A FUCKING DELICIOUS FISH SANDWICH! IT HAS CHEESE AND TARTAR SAUCE!” (excuse please my attempt at cyber-yelling, iShouting, what have you). I guess if I were an ad executive or part of some conglomerate creative agency, I’d say that is the perfect ad. Cast the cheesefish sandwich song in the face of America and they will surely bite, right? You’d have to talk to McDonald’s about that one.

My sarcasm beside me, I bet they sell a ton of those gross sandwiches and why? Why have we forgot that food is supposed to taste good, taste exciting, and be special. Why do people eat as if they are just trying to sustain life? I think the act of eating food has been deminishing since the advent of fast food. No longer do we wait anticipating what our wives or mothers have packed for our lunchbreak. We now just ask “McDonald’s or Burger King”.

I love food, but this blog will by no means just be another food blog written by some holier than thou self proclaimed foodie. This blog tackles life, love, great beer, great food, the good, the bad, the sexy, the sexless. This blog is me. There are many like it, but this one is mine.
